Particulate filter Also known as DPF or FAP, this filter is standard equipment in most modern diesel cars. The driver usually learns about its existence when the particulate filter warning light comes on on the vehicle's dashboard, while the engine's power drops and fuel consumption increases.

Such symptoms usually indicate a failure of the particulate filter. Unfortunately, all methods of cleaning the particulate filter usually suffice for a few months of using the car. After this period, the filter becomes dirty again, and this is usually due to the way the car is used.

Replacing the filter with a new one is a big expense, because a new filter often costs 20-30% of the car's value and no manufacturer provides a warranty for a new DPF filter. The only effective method to get rid of the problem with the particulate filter is to repair it.
